Tukaram Mundhe Biography

Tukaram Mundhe was born in a small village of Maharashtra, which is known as Tadsona. He is famously known as Tukaram Mundhe, but his original name is Tukaram Haribhau Mundhe. As of 2021, he is 46 years old and was born on Tuesday, June 1975.

Since childhood, he faced many problems as he was born in a farmer’s family; therefore, it was part of his routine that wake up early in the morning and go to school after coming back from school to do farming works.

After completing 10th class, he moved to Aurangabad to get higher education. And in Aurangabad, his elder brother was also studying, and he suggested to Tukaram that you must take science stream.

However, he took the science stream. Later, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, history, and political science from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India.

In 1996 after completing his graduation, Tukaram enrolled in a government-funded coaching institute known as Mumbai state Institute of administrative career. In that Institute, he prepared for the civil service examination along with it; he also enrolled in Mumbai’s college to complete his post-graduation in political science.

In the 4th attempt, he cleared the state civil service exam. He was posted as a 2nd class officer in the finance department of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

It was not his team to work in the finance department of Mumbai; therefore, he studied a lot, and after eight years, he cracked the UPSC civil service exam. While his rank was 20th across India and then he became an IAS officer.

 

Tukaram Mundhe Family

Tukaram Munde belongs to a farmer’s background family of the vanjari community. His father’s name is Haribhau Munde, a farmer by profession, and his mother is Aasrabai Mundhe.

He doesn’t have a sister but has an elder brother named Ashok Mundhe, and he was the first graduate and civil servant from his village. On the other hand, Ashok inspired Tukaram Mundhe to became an IAS officer.

He has married a woman named Archana Mundhe. He has two children, a daughter (Aashna Mundhe) and a son (Agastya Mundhe).

 

Tukaram Mundhe Post & Career

Tukaram has always been an honest IAS; when he was the supernumerary assistant collector of Solapur, he raided a bar owned by a powerful politician. Although it was the fourth day of his service, many illegal activities were being performed in that bar.

And later, he was posted as the chief minister of the municipality of Barshi block in Solapur. Therefore Tukaram mundhe removed more than 15000 unauthorized encroachments which were blocking the road.

In September 2007, he became the Assistant Collector of Degulr, Nanded, Maharashtra. After working there for about four months, he transferred to Nagpur as the CEO of Zilla Parishad.

On the first day of his duty, Tukaram visited some government schools and hospitals. Unfortunately, there he found many teachers and doctors were absent; therefore, he suspended them.

Although his primary motive was to fight against corruption along with that, he helped many ordinary people by solving their problems.

 

Tukaram Mundhe Transfer

Because Tukaram was against corruption many times, politicians demanded his transfer even though thousands of citizens were happy with his works.

In June 2020, an MLA of Indian National Congress and assembly speaker, Nana Patole, demanded Tukaram’s transfer. And that was his 15th transfer.

 

Walk with commissioner

Tukaram Mundhe’s program known as ‘walk with commissioner’ become popular. Under this initiative, he listened to the common Public’s problems every Sunday and few senior officials.

During the program, the common Public suggested to Tukaram what was going well in their area and what change he could make for the betterment. And on the public demand, he works on traffic congestion and soil water management.

During his career in Navi Mumbai, he suspended many teachers, doctors, and many other government officials who were not working correctly, and the general people were not happy with them.

 

Controversies

IAS Tukaram Mundhe did so much for his people, which brought the smile to their faces. However, many times he faced trouble and controversies due to a few Powerful politicians and people.

In 2016, NMMS (Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation) passed a no-confidence motion against the IAS Tukaram Mundhe. It is alleged that Tukaram has no respect for elected representatives. And also said, Tukaram works in a dictatorial style and believes in bureaucracy, not in a democracy.

After two years in 2018, a BJP elected representative of Nashik Municipal Corporation passed a no-confidence motion against IAS Tukaram Mundhe. He alleged that Tukaram takes decisions arbitrarily.

During the 2020 pandemic, Ganesh Peth police station registered an FIR against IAS Tukaram Mundhe because he has violated lockdown rules by attending an event where there were 200 people.

 

Achievements

In 2015, Tukaram received the best collector award from the chief minister of Maharashtra.

He has won Indian Express Excellence Governance Award.
