Sheelam param bhushanam meaning

Sheelam param bhushanam is a verse or sloka in the Sanskrit language. Sheelam means character, param means the best or highest, and bhushanam means ornament or jewel. However, suppose we want to understand the meaning of this phrase completed. In that case, it means “character is the highest virtue” or “character is the best ornament.”

This phrase may seem like a simple quote, but the truth is that this phrase has a special place in India’s cultural heritage. So this is not just for chanting, but it should fit into a person’s personality and life.

This sloka implies that the character of a person is his most valuable ornament or jewel. It doesn’t matter that someone has too many golden and expensive jewels or so much money if he neither owns a kind, trustworthy, or loyal character.

In addition, it illustrates that a person’s character says everything about it, and it’s the most valuable thing that he owns. A golden character is what makes a person rich.

This verse is also used as a motto to increase the function of government and non – government companies and their employees. This leads to better governance and creates a balance between welfare and ethical/social values. For example, it’s the motto of the training center of civil servants named LBSNAA (Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration) in Mussoorie.

This institute provides training and studying programs on public administration and policy. Moreover, it produces IAS officers. Following Sheelam Param Bhushanam cause to achieve an energetic and effective performance and character in the workplace for better country governance through civil servants.

In the Pali language, sheelam means Sila, and it means morality. The Sila, the Samadhi, and the Pragya are three virtues that shape the human being on the path of spiritualism.

Furthermore, Sanskrit scriptures explain that a person with too much wealth, however devoid of character, is worthless. The whole massage and philosophy of Sheelam Param Bhushanam prove that the Sila or character must be in the highest value rather than anything else.
