Prafulla Chaki Introduction

Prafulla Chaki had confused the British just like Chandra shekhar Azad and he never wanted to be caught by the British government, he was a young revolutionary who sacrificed his life happily at the age of 20, he had committed suicide by shooting himself.

Prafulla Chaki biography

Prafulla Chaki was born in the place of North Bengal which is now located in Bangladesh, her mother worked hard to raise her son as her father died only two years after Prafulla’s birth.

When Prafulla was a student, he was met Swami Maheswarananda and his secret revolutionary organizations.

Prafulla was influenced by Swami Vivekananda. And apart from this, he used to read about many revolutionaries, due to which a feeling of love for the country was born in his heart.

When Prafulla was in class four, he was expelled from school, because at that time he had participated in a movement which was against the partition of Bengal, and only after that he started considering himself as a revolutionary, and after seeing him many more students were participating.

After that, he joined another school, but he had to leave that school too because he again participated in the movement.

Revolutionary activities

Barin Ghosh called Prafulla to Kolkata and joined him in a party called Jugantar, and that party gave Prafulla the first task to kill Sir Joseph Bampfield Fuller.

Sir Joseph Bampfield Fuller was appointed as Lieutenant Governor in East Bengal and Assam. But this attempt was not successful.

Prafulla Chaki Bombing in Muzaffarpur

At that time Kingsford was the Chief Presidency Magistrate in Kolkata, and Kingsford used to punish the revolutionaries very much. This was the reason that Prafulla Chaki and Khudiram Bose had planned to kill him.

When the British Government saw the anger of the people towards Kingsford, they had increased his security system, after which he was sent to Muzaffarpur as a judge, but Khudiram Bose and Prafulla kept a close watch on him there as well.

In just three weeks, he had realized all the activities of Kingsford, in the year 1908, on 30 April, as soon as he showed Kingsford, Prafulla threw a bomb on him, Kingsford survived but instead of him, two innocent British women were badly injured, then died.

But after the bombing, he ran away because he thought that Kingsford was dead, and he was very happy too. However, no revolutionary in India wanted to harm any ordinary British citizen.

Prafulla Chaki Sacrificed

Prafulla reached Samastipur and sat on the train wearing different types of clothes. But he did not know that the police sub-inspector Nandlal Banerjee was also there on that train. And at that time the news of the Muzaffarpur bombings was spread in all areas.

When the inspector saw Prafulla, he had some doubts. Due to which he sent information to arrest Prafulla at the next station.

And as soon as the next station came, so the police came to arrest him, you try to run away from there but he was surrounded by policemen from all sides, after which Prafulla Chaki realized that he could not escape from the police, therefore he shot himself and died.

According to Kalicharan Ghosh, Prafulla changed his name to Dinesh Chandra Rai, and his friend Khudiram Bose was involved in taking revenge from Kingsford, However, his dead body could not be identified, his dead body was printed in newspapers. After which people recognized that Dinesh Chandra was a Prafulla chaki, and thus his corpse was identified.

Arrestment of Khudiram Bose

After Prafulla, it was now Khudiram Bose’s turn as he was also involved in that event, but he did not run from the train after the Muzaffarpur bombing even but went to Medinipur, and then he was stopped to drink water. after which a police officer standing there asked him the reason for running,

Then the policeman had doubts about him, also the British government had promised a reward of ₹1000 to the person who captured Khudiram.

At that time, Khudiram was only 18 years old, although when the policeman caught him, he fired 37 bullets in a row, but eventually he was arrested because he was young and he had no experience using a gun.

When he was arrested in 1908, he was not nervous at all, however, he confessed his crime in court.

Khudiram Bose did not give any information of any other revolutionary or any organization to the British police, but when the British police presented Prafulla’s dead body in front of him and asked him to identify him, he started crying because he was his friend.

He was also a revolutionary and both were doing this for the independence of India because, at that time, the British used to persecute the Indians a lot.

Facts 

• Prafulla Chaki was 2 years old when he lost his father, after which his mother had to face a lot of difficulties to take care of him.
• His first task was to assassinate Sir Joseph Bampfield Fuller, who was the Lieutenant Governor of Bengal and Assam.
• The British had also cut Prafulla’s dead body into pieces and sent him to Kolkata for investigation.
